December 94

A meeting of timetabling researchers from the University of Edinburgh, Napier University and the University of Nottingham decided to hold a conference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling in Summer 1995.

August 1995 September 1995

The first in our series of timetabling conferences was held in Edinburgh, UK. It was called the 1st International Conference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling ( ICPTAT'95). A decision was taken by the Steering Committee of this conference to propose to EURO that a new working group on Automated Timetabling be set up.

October 1995

The conference Steering Committee changed the conference acronym from ICPTAT to PATAT. The full conference name remained unchanged.

November 1995

A proposal was put to EURO. Edmund Burke and Jan Schreuder were the co-ordinators.

March 1996

EURO agreed to fund the new working group. WATT was formed.

April 1996

The Organising Committee was set up. This has not changed since it was first formed. Click here for a list of the members.

May 1996

Springer published a volume of selected papers from the 1st PATAT conference in their Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series.

August 1996

The WATT website was launched. Dave Corne was appointed WWW co-ordinator and WATT Digest editor. Kirk Jackson designed the WATT logo.

December 1996

The first WATT Digest was sent out to members.

July 1997

The 1st WATT Workshop was organised by Dave Corne at the EURO conference in Barcelona.

August 1997

The 2nd PATAT conference was held in Toronto, Canada. Andrea Schaerf took over the editorship of the WATT Digest.

December 1997

Graham Kendall took over maintenance of the WATT web pages..

May 1998

Springer published a volume of selected papers from the 2nd PATAT conference in their Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series.

July 1998

The 2nd WATT Workshop was organised by Jan Schreuder at the EURO conference in Brussels.

August 1999

The 3rd WATT Workshop was organised by Mike Carter at the IFORS conference in Beijing.
Dario Landa Silva was appointed WATT WWW site administrator.

August 2000

The 3rd PATAT conference was held in Konstanz, Germany. Graham Kendall was appointed new WATT Digest Editor.

May 2001

Springer published a volume of selected papers from the 3rd PATAT conference in their Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series.

July 2001

The 4th WATT Workshop was organised by Sanja Petrovic at the EURO conference in Rotterdam.

August 2002

The 4th PATAT conference was held in Gent, Belgium.
Gareth Beddoe was appointed new WATT Digest Editor

May 2003

Springer published a volume of selected papers from the 4th PATAT conference in their Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series.

July 2003

The 5th WATT Workshop was organised by Jonathan Thompson at the EURO XIX/INFORMS conference in Istambul.

July 2004

The 6th WATT Workshop was organised by Sophia Daskalaki at the EURO XX conference in Rodhes.

August 2004

The 5th PATAT conference was held in Pittsburgh, USA.

July 2005

The 7th WATT Workshop was organised by Dario Landa Silva at the IFORS 2005 conference in Hawaii.

August 2006

Sanja Petrovic is taking over from Edmund Burke the role of a co-ordinator of the WATT.

March 2007

John Woodward was appointed a new WATT Digest Editor.
